A Critical Curriculum on Capitalism

2025-01-13

I have long considered myself an anti-capitalist, a leftist, a socialist, and waveringly but increasingly resolutely a communist. Despite that, the amount of texts I’ve read on capital and capitalism are shockingly few. I aim to remedy that this year. To that end, I have compiled a reading list for myself on the topic, largely consisting of books I already have on the topic, but with a few additions I intend to acquire as well. Lets begin:

Capital, vol. 1 by Karl Marx

Ah, a foundational text, and a long one. This is the text that began it all. Its a little daunting to think about getting through this monster, but I believe that reading this seminal work will be invaluable. I’ve heard that its not even that difficult a read too.

Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism by Vladimir Lenin

Capitalist Realism by Mark Fisher

The Origin of Capitalism by Ellen Meiskins Wood

Empire by Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri

Technofeudalism: What Killed Capital by Yaris Varoufakis

Rentier Capitalism by Brett Christophers
